the antechamber. Howard Carter, Lord Carnarvon and Lady Evelyn
Herbert, Lord Carnarvon’s daughter, make the first hole in
the sealed doorway of the tomb, and those memorable words
are spoken. Carnarvon asks Carter “Can you see anything?”
“Yes” says Carter “Wonderful things”. The antechamber itself
is shown exactly as it was when the party first broke in.
The dramatised audio presentation re-creates this magical moment in 1922. The
smells of the tomb have been specially formulated and re-created by reference
to the description in Howard Carter’s account and by comparison
with actual samples of the unguents and aromatic oils from
the tomb.
